How to Make a Spinning Raksha Bandhan Card
What you need:
[+] Coloured card stock or heavy paper
[+] Coloured paper
[+] Two cups or bowls that fit inside one another (to draw around)
[+] Scissors
[+] Beads or sequins
[+] Glue
[+] Coloured wool
[+] A hole-punch or darning needle
Instructions:
[+] Fold your sheet of coloured card stock in half from left to right to form the basis of your greeting card.
[+] Take the larger of your two circular objects, place it in the centre on the front of your card, and draw around it.
[+] Use scissors to cut out the circle, leaving a hole in the front of the card.
[+] Take a different coloured sheet of card and trace around your smaller bowl or cup twice. Cut out both circles.
[+] Using the coloured paper, beads or sequins, and glue, decorate each small circle and leave to dry.
[+] Cut three 20cm pieces of wool. Turn over one of the decorated circles, spread it with glue, and then lay the three pieces of wool across the middle. Sandwich the second decorated circle on top and leave to dry.
[+] Now, braid the wool poking out of each end of the circular sandwich to form a thin rope.
[+] Punch or pierce two holes in your card on either side of your large cut-out circle with either the hole punch or darning needle.
[+] Thread each end of the braided wool through these two holes, so that the decorated circles hang in the middle.
[+] Knot the braids to the card and trim the ends.
[+] Decorate the outside of the cut-out circle – you can use sequins or stickers, or even draw or paint around it if you would like.
[+] When the glue is dry, your little one can personalise the inside of the card by putting a message to his or her loved one!
Hand Sewn Raksha Bandhan Greeting Cards
What you need:
[+] Coloured wool
[+] Beads
[+] Darning needle
[+] Pencils and pens
[+] Fold the coloured card in half to make a simple greeting card.
[+] Get your child to place his or her hand on the front of the card and trace around it.
[+] Thread the needle with the coloured wool and carefully ‘sew’, in and out, around the hand outline.
[+] Use several lengths of coloured wool and the beads to make a basic bracelet.
[+] Pierce two holes on either side of the wrist on the card and thread the ends of the bracelet through.
[+] Knot the ends of the bracelet to the card, and then trim to tidy up.
